At City Retreat, our mission is to uplift and empower refugees and asylum seekers who have arrived in the UK after fleeing conflict, persecution and hardship.
We recognise the immense challenges they face and are committed to offering consistent, compassionate support that helps restore dignity, belonging and hope.
Through a dedicated budget and tailored programmes, we provide:
• Regular food drives to meet essential needs
• Eid celebrations that bring joy, connection and cultural familiarity
• Zakat and charitable assistance for those facing financial difficulty
• Weekly activities that promote integration, language skills and emotional wellbeing

Services for Refugees & Asylum Seekers at City Retreat
ESOL Classes
We proudly offer weekly ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) classes tailored for refugees and asylum seekers. These sessions help participants develop their speaking, reading, and writing skills in English—empowering them to integrate into British society and take meaningful steps toward employment and independence.
Sporting Activities
Our regular sports sessions, including football and boxing, offer a fun, energising way to stay active and healthy. These activities also help participants build friendships, reduce isolation, and feel more connected to the local community.
Employment Clinics
Our monthly Employment Clinic provides hands-on support to help individuals prepare for the workplace. From CV building and interview coaching to job opportunity guidance, we help people gain the confidence and tools they need to secure meaningful employment.
Financial Support
Through our zakat programme, we offer essential financial support to individuals and families experiencing hardship. This service provides vital relief and helps restore dignity, stability, and hope.
